I am finally home at my own computer and can send you this email, which is long overdue. I put a comment on Compass's Facebook page, but had to wait until now to write to you personally.
Thank you so much for taking on the task of tracing and returning my small bag of electronic items safely to me. The concern and care shown by all who helped return the items was amazing. It was such a relief that you answered your mobile phone in the middle of the night, when I returned to Delhi Airport from Amritsar and could not find the Compass representative, as we had arranged. (We had arrived at the International Terminal instead of the Domestic.) My camera and phone were in the parcel as you know, with all my photos from our wonderful trip, so I was so pleased that the rep had not given up and gone home to bed, when I didn't show up at the domestic meeting place.
However, the successful return of my parcel was mainly due to your persistence in dealing with Indigo Air Customer Service in Delhi and Varanasi, giving them all my details and following through afterwards. I am sure this attention to detail and your genuine concern, will carry you a long way in tourism management. So. again I'd like to thank you for your part in arranging our amazing 25 day India trip and especially for helping me retrieve my lost items.
I will recommend Compass to everyone I know who is thinking of touring India. The success of a company depends on the quality of its people and all of your agents were unfailingly kind and helpful. Our whole trip experience was a total success, thanks to you all. Here is a photo of our group at the Taj Mahal, I'm at the back left.
With warm regards,

Hope this finds you and all those at Compass well this New Year!
Megan "As an American who has over 20 years experience working in India, Durjay is the only person, in my experience, who can listen, understand quickly and deliver a customized tour of India that reflects any individual's wishes, needs and budget. His ability to design a super personal tour for my husband and me exceeded all my expectations."
Congratulations on arranging another successful trip for the Moses family!!! This has reinforced our faith that you can deliver the same outstanding service to our changing needs. The two trips in 2001 and 2003 were just us on an anniversary trip, but this 2015 voyage with our young children, was extra special.
Extremely pleased with the other two trips, there was no need to go to your websites to learn about the planning process. A simple email about our dates and must-see places was all that was needed to immediately launch into the meticulous planning that is part of your standard procedure. We greatly appreciated how you accommodated the special requests of the Sikh temple and the railway tour in Delhi. It was a highlight for our children; rolling out the dough for the chapatties and meeting the youth who were seeking a better future. Although they enjoyed learning about the historical monuments, seeing India's current state, is something they will not forget.
We loved that the boutique and deluxe hotels put us in connecting or adjacent rooms to keep our family together. We appreciated the location of the hotels where it allowed us the possibility to walk on our own and experience the local scene in peace without the hawkers following us for “a good price”. Our regret is that we did not stay longer to linger especially in our favorite hotel, the Suryagarh in Jaisalmer. It was truly a magical place encompassing the “sense of place” and rivals the Amarvilas in Agra.
We see that India is booming with a robust tourist industry which was so vastly different from our post-Sept. 11 trip in 2001. We thought that more time was required at the tourist sites, but this was not the case. We were thankful that Anuradha purchased the Taj Mahal tickets in advance prior to meeting us, to avoid the lengthy wait time. Your guides were sensitive to our children and made changes such as by flipping excursions around or repeating a story so they could understand the significance of the site. We loved that Khuldip explained the life tasks of a Hindu in terms they could quickly grasp, Devi was willing to repeat Jantar Mantar’s intricacies of time measurements and Anu’s photographic skills captured our memory in the best light. Most impressive were their punctuality yet unflappable patience. We were usually late for the excursion and took a long time to shop, but they all exuded “no hurry, no worry” spirit. Special note to our driver, Manesh who was with us for two weeks weaving the complicated and seemingly jarring roadways with such a calm demeanor.
We would like to extend our recognition to the Compass Team who handled the numerous parts of this trip. Though there were probably more, the ones we know who were involved in our trip deserves a mention; Anupama’s detailed planning emails, Mayank’s explanation of the itinerary options we could adjust and Radhika’s monitoring of the destinations. Another person worth noting is Udit who is more than a representative. His warmth put our children at ease as he recounted the story of Diwali twice, shared his insights of Buddhism and enthusiasm for travel.
Lastly, we want to personally thank Durjay Sengupta. You are the heart of this experience and our praises of the Compass team are the manifestations of your qualities. Our affection for India stems from your vision in prioritizing the guests' experience while assuring safety and tending to the fluidity of our needs. India’s charms can be easily lost but with Compass as our guide, its true treasures are quickly realized with the clasped hand gesture and bow of “Namaste” reflecting the spirit of hospitality we have not found anywhere else on this earth. Thank you again for navigating our incredible journey!!!

We travelled with Compass Tour in october 2014 for one month and were very pleased by the quality of their services. We do not hesitate to recommend them as they are very professionnal.
I'm just copying an earlier post to make sure people know how great Compass India are!!
My wife, son and I recently did a three week trip to India and we had Compass India Holidays arrange almost all of our tour and vacation arrangements.
To sum them up in a word is hard but they were Excellent!
I have travelled extensively for business and pleasure for about 30+ years and with some knowledge and experience I can say that they are one of the most professional groups I have ever travelled with.
From the get go they were on top of our arrangements, they organised a tour that was tailor made to our travel arrangements. The choice of hotels were great with ideal locations and well suited to travel needs and budget with a good selection of food to cater for most peoples taste.
We had our own personal car driver and guide and all were excellent.
Our guides (Shaman - Mumbai, Aleem - Aurangabad, Avinash - Delhi, Jaipur & Agra and Agnello - Goa) were lovely with very relaxed and easy going personalities. All of them had a detailed knowledge of the regions and the attractions we visited and were very entertaining. They were attentive to our needs and tried to accommodate any request we had. The cars were very clean and well maintained and the drivers were safe and professional.
I usually don't like to recommend any tour or travel agent but these guys I would recommend any time. We are already thinking of our next trip to India and we will definitely use Compass India Holidays
We were a group of 21 Americans, average age about 65. Compass took us through Northern India for 17 days. We went to New Delhi, Varanasee, Khajarahou, Agra (Taj Mahal), Jaipur, Jodhpur, tiger preserve, bird sanctuary, Udaipur, Mumbai. Compass did an excellent job. They handled the transport of 21 people and more than twice that number of bags to new locations about every second day flawlessly. The tour guide was personable and paid excellent attention to us. The driver was also outstanding. The high points were Varanasee (the Ganges at night), Agra (Taj), the extraordinary Jain temple in Rajistan, staying at the Oberoi in Udaipur. The price of the trip was very reasonable.
We just did a ten-day first-time trip to North India organized by Compass. I wasn't sure that we wanted their high-level of organization, but I'm glad we took it. From the first meeting with a Compass representative at the airport in Delhi to the final trip back to the airport with the same representative we were guided and supported by an excellent team of professionals.
Compass's strength is its people and the people it sub-contracts to. Right away we met our Compass tour manager and a Compass vice-president and we were away. We were given a cell phone and received contact calls wherever we went. We were even allowed to keep and use the phone for a stay on the beach and with friends down in Kerala.
The various guides and drivers were all excellent and the itinerary and plan were comprehensive and flexible.
We would certainly use Compass again and at the very minimum at least get a price from them. All our contacts with Compass were informative, problem-solving and effective.
I can't say enough good things about this company. Right from the first email to the last ride to the airport coming home they were FABULOUS!!!!
I contacted them on the recommendation of my cousin who had used them a couple of years ago. My first email was answered within 24 hours and that set the standard for everything that followed. Prompt, courteous and flexible. We suggested a possible itinerary and they fleshed it out. We reviewed the suggested itinerary and after a couple of emails back-and-forth and all was set.
I suddenly realized that one town that I had wanted to visit I had left off the list. Next day it was on the list and everything rejigged.
Even during the course of the trip a couple of things were changed. Hotels that other guest had commented on that were having problems were changed and new accommodation arranged. The level of accommodation was excellent. We had requested 3-4 star and I would say that in most cases it was above those levels by North American standards.
We decided part way through out trip that we wanted to make a major itinerary change. The change had nothing to do with what Compass had arranged but rather it was solely that my travelling companion and I felt we wanted to do something different from what we had said at the start. Within 48 hours changes to route, hotels and sites was changed. Spectacular!!!!!
We were given a cell phone and every couple of days one of the TWO people handling our tour from the head office in Delhi would contact us to see how things were going. (They were always going well)
This company should get some kind of an award and could set a good example to some North American and European companies for service and attention to their clients.
We had a wonder time in India and our experience with Compass India was outstanding. From the initial inquiry on-line through the whole trip your company was very professional.
I looked at several companies prior to booking with you. Primary reason I chose Compass was the basic suggested itineraries were there like the others, but the trip could easily be customized with Compass.
Hotels: The service at the Claridges was outstanding. I thought this would be my least favorite but because of the service, we all like it best. The Fairmont was a beautiful hotel but the service was awful. Two of my travel buds could not wait to leave. I checked reviews on TripAdvisor and think our experience may have been isolated. Thank you so much for the ocean view room in Goa. We loved it!
Guides and drivers: Very professional, courteous and knowledgeable. (The pick up to the airport in Goa was late and we literally had to run to catch our plane.)
A few things really made your company stand out: The professional appearance of your representatives was impressive. (There was only one person holding a sign in a suit and tie at the airport on our arrival and it had our name on it. Seems silly, but immediately gave me confidence in you guys.) Providing a mobile phone with the number in advance was terrific. Advance names and numbers of people helping me on the trip instilled peace of mind. Regularly checking in with us was nice. Everyone was genuinely interested in assuring our happiness.
I had not expected someone to meet us at the airport for our transfer from Mumbai for our international flight home through Delhi. I cannot remember his name, but had he not been there, we would have missed our flight. In fact, I think he was more concerned about this than me. We owe your company and him a big thanks. He was outstanding. (Helpful hint: Airports in the US do not require a printed itinerary to get into the airport thus we did not have one when arriving for our departure home. You may want to pass this along to your future customers to bring this along.)
One final note, I felt I received great value for the price of the trip. I intend to post an excellent review of Compass on Trip Advisor (you don't see to be very well represented there). If you would prefer me to post elsewhere or act as a reference in anyway, would be happy to do so.
Would definitely use your company again for future travel. Thank you for a job well done.
Many thanks to you and the other travel specialists at Compass who offered us an outstanding visit to India. We appreciate your flexibility in tailoring the itinerary to our interests, specifically the inclusion of Bharatpur for bird watching and Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve. The hotels were excellent. Lebua Lodge was memorable in its design and location and the Oberoi Udaivillas was way beyond anything we could have anticipated in elegance and luxury. The restaurants offered attractive, sometimes dramatic, settings and the meals were consistently delicious.
Most important, all of our guides were excellent--knowledgeable, articulate, and engaged. Aman managed to communicate the mystery of the ghats, so even as Westerners, we felt like we acquired some understanding of the ceremonies that we observed. Devi was a delight. His leadership provided structure with flexibility and he helped tie together our many and varied experiences. He was always cheerful and very patient in answering our many questions.
I would unhesitatingly recommend Compass to any of my friends considering a tour of India.
Allow me to thank you for letting us use the phone even when we were not under Compass contract. It was a very generous gesture and extremely useful as we negotiated our way through Kerala and back to Delhi. The phone actually proved to be invaluable in reorganizing a cancelled flight back to Delhi from Cochin.
So, what is our impression of Compass? Well, your strengths are your people , your knowledge of the terrain, your grasp of what our expectations are and your ability to provide a support throughout the trip. I felt we were supported by Compass even when our Northern trip finished. From that first contact at the airport (Bravo!) to the trip back out to the airport to go South, we were VERY impressed with drivers, guides and supporting executives and managers back in Delhi. Your choice of hotels was spot on and we enjoyed them all.
Our Delhi and Agra guides were exceptional people and I will certainly keep in touch with them both. Our drivers were all extremely competent and our driver/guide, Chaman Lal, was a fun teacher of Hindi (and Punjabi). He gave us a very fine insight into your country, the passions, the values, the people. It was a privilege to be with such a lively, intelligent, competent driver.
In fact, while we were extremely impressed by the sites, what I liked the most were the Compass people who helped us as we tried to understand your great country. We were lucky enough to be guided by our Canadian friend, Raman Nayar, but he was quite right to recommend using Compass expertise to build our trip. I’m glad we did and I would recommend the same approach to any other Canadian making the same trip. And I will certainly come back to you when we start building our second visit to India.
I forgot to mention that our Amritsar guide was also brilliant. He took us to the Golden temple at dawn and positioned us perfectly near the Book to see the ceremony. He then negotiated us into the kitchens of the Golden Temple Langar where we watched the miracle of volunteers preparing to feed 80,000 people a day. He was very cultivated and we felt very safe and well-informed under his guidance. Another exceptional guide. I will certainly make a comment on tripadvisor. I don’t know where you found your guides, but they were the highlight of my visit to India. What amazing young people!
Our thanks to everyone in the Compass organization.
The Compass Representatives,
I am speechless as I do not have words to describe how thankful we are for this wonderful Travel which not only exceeded our expectations but helped us in fulfilling our long awaited dream.
One thing which we will never forget is the love and affection of the Indian people for us. The attention which we got was incredible in all the aspects, the representatives and guides were all very warm and accommodating and we have become friends with many of them. The hotels, the food, all the guided visits were all special which only India can offer.
We will recommend Compass with closed eyes to all. Behind all the minute details of our travel I would like to highlight our friend who gave us his true Friendship. We truly recommend, appreciate and respect Compass.

Here i am sending some photos of our travel to India.
We have not stopped talking about the best holiday we had in Bhutan and Kolkata. Whenever someone ask about it we say how great it all was. And then in the very next sentence we acknowledge that Bhutan is a great experience; but what made it even better was the way we enjoyed the 15 days without any hassle or worry. And Radhika, all this thanks to you and Shweta. You had taken care of every small thing. I think from the time we landed at Kolkata we were looked after so well and all smiling friendly people genuinely wanting to make our holiday even more enjoyable.
In Kolkata, we had the most enthusiastic guide with whom we relived part of the British Raj History; saw some of the street life that as visitors we may avoid and for me specially he took us to a friend's place in the Old City. The family is a very close relative on Netaji Shubhash Bose. The hotel you chose for us was very friendly and comfortable. The chefs competed to give us the best food. And a big thank you for the special Birth Day Dinner.
The ten days in Bhutan will be remembered for ever for the comfort and services of the Amankora Hotels. Their staff and management made us feel at home and treated as family.
The only sore point was the sore bums we had after long journeys but we enjoyed every minute of it.
Once again, Radhika, thank you very much for a memorable holiday. I am tempted to ask if you organise holidays in Cambodia; we would like to visit the ancient temples.
If ever you visit the UK, please look us up. It would be great to say thank you in person.
Dear Compass India Holidays,
I wanted to write to you for longest time but was caught up with other things, I apologize for that. First, I would like to thank you for the excellent job you have done for my India trip from planning to booking and to addressing to my needs. Everything worked out as planned.
I was bit nervous as it was my first trip with my in-laws. I thought it would be tough dealing with two different generations (in-laws and kids) but all the arrangement you made, made it easy on my part to make it a grand success. It was very comfortable at every level from arrival to departure. Meeting with compass reps. was very thrilling. They made it easy with all necessary information. Having a guide who can speak different languages made it even easier for kids to understand our history. They were fascinated by the beauty of Qutub Minar Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, and Palaces in Jaipur. I would like to express my 'Thank you' to you and your staff members who made my trip very memorable. My family will remember this trip for rest of our life's. Every thing worked out well. I have recommended your site compassindiatours.com and service to most of my friends abroad and in India. Thank you again and please share this e-mail with your staff. Take care.
Before anything else I also wish U Happy Holidays and wish you enjoy your Christmas with your loved ones!! :) and this is also to tell you that we have been really very satisfied with the organization of the trip which couldn't have been better!!
The Hotels were very good and the service of the attendants, guides and the drivers magnificent! Specially want to confess that our last driver Gajendra Singh Yadav was so very generous and helpful, always at our disposal and was guarding and protecting us like a Father and we grew fond of him and we would please like you to tell him this as we were so secure with him !!
It was a great experience and I am sending you some of our photos to mark this adventure of ours ¡!
Without anything else I want to appreciate and congratúlate you for the work from the very first time you contacted me it was a pleasure talking to you and all your colleague's help and without a doubt I will not fail to recommend my friends and family to contact you and more than anything if i can return to India I will go with Compass!!
A big kiss and a greeting.
Ms. M. Patricia Garrido Gessa & Ms. M. Azucena Hidalgo Sanchez
Dear people of the Compass team, I thank you for your work on my trip to India on Holi Festival.
Everyone who attended me, made the trip full of good memories.
From Barcelona I'm sharing my memories, photographs and video footage with my friends and I continue to encourage people to travel to this great country.
I don't remember the names of all those people who attended me and I would appreciate if you could send me a list of the guides and drivers from every city I visited, so that I can send them some pictures, etc..
Especially of the person who accompanied us in Jaipur. I am sending a picture of a woman who worked at the Amber Fort and had already appeared in the photographs of the trip in 2010. She is a housekeeper, but for me very important. I too am a woman and when I saw that she recognized me I think she wanted to explain and ask, but she did not understand English and time forced us to continue the visit.
On the other hand, I thank Vaishali for the splendid treatment and I must mention that the Barcelona office helped out a lot.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Sorry we didn't get to meet. I know you were in NY and thought perhaps we might meet here.
First, I want to thank you for a wonderful tour. I will definitely recommend Compass to others. Pawan was on top of things all the time and available at any hour. Most of the guides were excellent. Particularly Angelique in Jaipur, and .. now I'm forgetting his name, our guide in Varanasi. They don't get any better. They worked far beyond the call for duty. Both highly intelligent with great personalities. Couldn't do enough for us.
It was especially great to have a female guide who understands the interests of women more.. like shopping desires.
Our driver Devin or David was extremely attentive and caring. He worked really hard and took care of my mother. He also worked over and beyond the call of duty. A very thoughtful, kind person. The only thing is for me he drove too fast and weaved too much for comfort in between cars. I did tell him and he definitely improved.
Our driver the last day in Delhi who we didn't have much contact with and I believe he didn't really feel comfortable with English, a very nice man from Nepal, driving style was more comfortable for us.
The hotels were excellent, I loved the Havelis particularly the one Jodpur. What a treat!
All the sites were fascinating. The only city that I thought the sites that were on the schedule were not of interest were in Delhi. We were now in the capital of India and we didn't need to see anymore ancient monuments when we only had one day there. I noticed a sign on the road for Gandhi's museum and then for Indira's and our guide took us there. We were both so fascinated by it. I believe westerners would be quite interested to visit both. Then in the afternoon we went to the old market in Old Delhi and that was also a treat.
We did manage to hook up with Isaac from the synagogue late at night and in fact, Pawan joined us. I was happy to make that contact for him. Isaac is a good speaker and quite involved in diplomatic relations about the topic of Jews in India. He is from the old Bene Israel tribe. A good contact for any of your Jewish travelers who go to Delhi.
We also had a lovely lunch with someone else I connected with named Gulu Ezekial. Gulu writes about cricket. He has a column in the India Times and has written several books on the subject. We met because I learned he is half Jewish. He took me and my mom and his sister to lunch at a lovely restaurant called The Kitchen. I highly recommend this place for your tourists.
Also, I would say the best Indian food we had was at the restaurant our guide Angelique took us to for lunch in Jaipur. I don't remember the name but I'm sure she does. It was not the fanciest place but the food was fabulous. She introduced us to a vegetarian dish that was not spicy - navaratan korma (sp?) with cashews. Yummy. Mom and I don't do well with spicy food. I ate a lot of chicken tandoor and chicken tikka masala. Both delicious and what I eat often in the states.
Having the cell phone made us feel secure. We knew we were not out of contact with our family in the states and we had a means to contact Compass or anyone in India. Thank you. It's a real plus. I understand it was your idea and I can only say a great idea that makes a huge difference.
We always felt taken care of and never alone. The way the tour was organized with a local compass rep and a local guide was perfect.
I was so impressed by the number of universities. And so impressed by the people who are so poor but don't feel poor. I loved learning about the Jaine people, visiting their, learning about Buddha.
Varsha, in all, I was blown away. Blown away by India, by the people, by Compass service. I want to come back and explore the areas I have not been to.. further north, Punjab, the south and so on.
You know what they say, Incredible India!
I will look for some pictures and forward to you.
Are you on Facebook?
Dear Compass India,
My wife and I would like to thank you for the wonderful service provided by your company during our recent trip.
I can only say that you and your staff far exceeded any reasonable expectations we may have had in relation to service, the quality of accommodation and the general experience of our trip.
Beginning particularly with Anchal, every member of your staff that we contacted was invariably helpful, polite, cheerful, creative and just basically nice.
The comfort of being met at every airport and assisted to our hotel was beyond value.
In many cases, and in particular during the fog delays in Jaipur, the local agent went far beyond what would be generally expected, managing to reschedule lost flights with a different airline, thus ensuring our eventual arrival in Kochi when it would appear that many others in similar situations did not.
In every case, the accommodation provided was excellent and of a higher standard than expected. Where hotels were not ultra-modern and 'international' in style, they were more traditional and provided other attractions. I am thinking of both Ranthambhore and Kochi where the hotel design seemed to capture the unique feeling of the location. Even the slightly faded splendour of the Fariyas in Mumbai provided as a bonus a spectacular view of the harbour, complete with dhows!
The drivers provided were beyond praise. Their skills were awesome and their even temperament, so essential for the type of driving they were doing, excellent. Their English skills were sufficient for the task and they were invariably considerate of our needs in relation to things like toilet stops.
The guides arranged were excellent. We appreciated the fact that the guide in Ajanta had a masters degree in history and that the guide in Mumbai was able to give us what was effectively an oral history, having lost a close relative in the attack.
We had three outstanding experiences during the trip, including that in Mumbai. The others were a 'close and personal' meeting with a tiger in Ranthambhore and the incomparable experience of the Taj Mahal which defies all explanation and expression.
Again, many thanks
Kay and M. Curran
